Color of the Week: White

Welcome back to the
here on Play Create Explore!

This week my toddler and preschooler explored the color white!
We had so much fun with this color!

White Objects Exploration Bin
As always, the first thing we do on the first day of our color themed weeks, is walk around the house and gather a bunch of our toys and other objects for the color of the week. This serves as a bit of an introduction to the color of the week and we also explore this bowl all throughout the week. I keep it right on the dining room table and we often go through this bowl and talk about the things in it during breakfast, lunch or dinner. For my 19 month old, it serves as a great way to identify and verbalize new objects and experience different shapes and textures as well.  For my oldest, it's a great tool for encouraging language and communication.

Navy Bean Sensory Bin
Naturally white, navy beans were a perfect sensory bin option for this color themed week!

Finger Painting on Tin Foil
Not for any particular reason other than for a new painting experience, the boys painted with white finger paint on tin foil instead of paper. My youngest kept saying "shiny!"

Shredded Paper Sensory Bin
We've done this many times before. It's a messy bin but easy to sweep or vacuum up!

What else did we do?
Here are a few other very simple ways we focused on "white" this week

--We identified white ALL over the place. If something was white, I identified it and said it outloud.
"The clouds are white."  "The milk is white." "What color is your shirt? Your shirt is white!"
You can never have too much repetition! However, we didn't leave out or ignore other colors though. In our everyday play I still identified other colors, I just put a lot of focus on blue specifically!

We checked out this pinterest board of all white animals!

We ate "white foods" such as cauliflower and popcorn!

-We picked one night to read only some our books with white covers.

-We picked a day to wear white shirts.

  1. Great ideas!! Question: did the paint stick to the foil well? Did you add anything to it? I've been wanting to do different canvases for painting, but I was worried the paint would flake off.
